Teen Addiction
Adolescence is period of time that involves a lot of changes and pressure. Almost every teen will give in to some form of peer pressure at one point or another, however, experimentation with drugs and alcohol can often lead to more severe abuse. Everyone looks at teen experimentation with drugs and alcohol as a learning process, and something that everyone will experience at one point or another. However, when do we draw the line? When does it become too much? How can we measure our teens’ safety? Yes, everyone may experiment with drugs or alcohol at one point or another, but that doesn’t mean that we should take it lightly. Teen addiction has become increasingly prevalent in our society and this can be attributed to a number of factors. Drugs and alcohol have become extremely easy to access, not to mention media illustrations of teen drug use and alcohol abuse have become fairly common and nonchalant.
Adolescent Intervention
In more severe cases of adolescent rebellion, an adolescent intervention could be of use. Various statistics reveal that positive peer relationships, positive family relationships, and school can be extremely beneficial for adolescents who may be at risk for developing addictive behaviors. A lack of self-esteem and a lack of self-control are two contributing factors for adolescents who develop compulsive behavior. An adolescent intervention often involves family members and a professional interventionist, who all work together to encourage positive behavior and life changes.
Family Intervention
Fairly similar to an adolescent intervention is a family intervention. A family intervention involves family members as they work together to offer their support and encouragement in a non-judgmental manner in an attempt to persuade the teen in treatment. It is extremely important for each family member to remain calm and encouraging, as it will increase the chances for success.
