Newport Beach Residents Fight against Addiction Treatment Center

When you think of Newport Beach, the beautiful beach and scenery is probably the first thing that comes to mind. That’s what these residents are proud of and that’s what their fighting for in the latest battle against another addiction rehabilitation center in their neighborhood. For quite some time, Orange County and Newport Beach has been the place for luxury rehab centers. This week, residents and lawyers have formally sent a letter to the city opposing a new recovery center.

Addiction Treatment Awareness
The most interesting part about this story is the awareness about the controversy of addiction treatment. Speaking from a legal aspect, most officials favor rehabilitation because it shows that the individual is looking for a way to better themselves and get over their addiction. As for residents, they feel that it is attracting the wrong crowd to their home town. The farthest this dispute has gotten has even led City Council to rule on the limit of beds per center. In fact, there are many activists and groups that rally against new rehab centers.

A Safe Place for Drug and Alcoholism Treatment
All individuals deserve a chance to succeed with drug and alcoholism treatment. The real problem arises when the public doesn’t want these rehab centers in their neighborhood. Alcohol a Factor in Deadly Wrong Way Crash?

Alcohol addiction treatment is always an important topic because it can be a painful process for a family to endure. Recently, a story of a tragic car accident hit the news. Two cars were involved a head-on car accident and involved a Navy officer. One car was traveling about about 90 mph, as it crashed with the other vehicle. Both drivers died on impact. What does this have to do with addiction treatment exactly?

Alcoholism Treatment for a Troubled Son
Upon investigation, the LAPD have found that one of the drivers could have made a deliberate move. The driver of the Saturn, Jason Sorg had trouble prior to the deadly accident. His mother told authorities that Sorg’s brother had recently died. The troubled mom also spoke about how her son has had trouble with drinking in the past and was also possibly involved in drug use. This is just an example of how an intervention and alcoholism treatment could potentially help families avoid a tragic situation.

Alcohol Alternative Rehabilitation
The young Navy officer who was involved, Oscar Avila Mendoza, left behind a pregnant wife. His passenger also suffered injuries and is in stable condition. Whether it’s a family alcohol intervention or alternative rehabilitation, this is a serious issue that should be addressed as soon as possible. Alcoholism is a deadly disease that has potential to harm innocent bystanders, such as the one in this story.

For many of us, the word rehab is associated with celebrity and fame. We think about the many celebrities who have been in and out of rehab—Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Robert Downey Jr., Drew Barrymore, Michael Jackson, Nicole Ritchie, etc. The list is endless. But what many of us fail to remember is that addiction and compulsion affect many people, not just those in the entertainment industry. And for those individuals who don’t have the money to check into beautiful luxurious rehabilitation centers at their leisure, the process of seeking help and recovering is very difficult. For this reason, many people suffering from drug addiction, alcohol abuse, or some other form of compulsion must experience an intervention before submitting themselves to a recovery program.

AE is known for its provocative and drama-oriented shows. Intervention AE does a good job of exploring these “real life” people who are displaying negative and unacceptable behavior as a result of his or her addiction or abuse.
