Addiction Treatment before a Deadly Accident

The Realities of Drug Alcohol Detox
The realities of drug alcohol detox don’t seem real until it happens to someone you know and care about. TV shows and tabloids often exploit addiction when individuals need help and care to get better. Unfortunately, addiction doesn’t discriminate when it comes to its victims. Earlier this week, I learned that a friend from high school got addicted to drugs and alcohol after we graduated. This was shocking as we all remembered Terry as a smart and quiet girl. Unfortunately, her life story has been cut short due to her addictions.

Addiction Treatment for an Old Friend
As a young adult, Terry struggled with rehab addiction treatment and multiple tries at 12 step programs. After over 5 years in college, Terry managed to graduate a respected college and her family and friends thought that she had everything together. The trouble didn’t end there though, as Terry was secretly struggling with stress and eventually relapsed. With so much expectations on a sober individual’s shoulders, it’s important for them to have a support system, even if doesn’t appear that they need it.

Drug Addiction Treatment Before Tragedy Strikes

Last week, I attended a small funeral with Terry’s friends and family. Her father’s eulogy addressed Terry’s angst and addictions. It was a sobering moment for her loved ones to face the fact that she was gone. At the young age of 23 and numerous tries at drug addiction treatment, Terry was involved in a late night accident. It will take weeks to find out whether drugs and alcohol were involved. If anything was learned from this one real experience, it’s that addicts need help to overcome their problem. Don’t give up on your loved one and give them all the love and support you can while they are in recovery.

Newport Beach Residents Fight against Addiction Treatment Center

Addiction Rehab Center
When you think of Newport Beach, the beautiful beach and scenery is probably the first thing that comes to mind. That’s what these residents are proud of and that’s what their fighting for in the latest battle against another addiction rehabilitation center in their neighborhood. For quite some time, Orange County and Newport Beach has been the place for luxury rehab centers. This week, residents and lawyers have formally sent a letter to the city opposing a new recovery center.

Addiction Treatment Awareness
The most interesting part about this story is the awareness about the controversy of addiction treatment. Speaking from a legal aspect, most officials favor rehabilitation because it shows that the individual is looking for a way to better themselves and get over their addiction. As for residents, they feel that it is attracting the wrong crowd to their home town. The farthest this dispute has gotten has even led City Council to rule on the limit of beds per center. In fact, there are many activists and groups that rally against new rehab centers.

A Safe Place for Drug and Alcoholism Treatment
All individuals deserve a chance to succeed with drug and alcoholism treatment. The real problem arises when the public doesn’t want these rehab centers in their neighborhood. With a beach front view, luxury homes, and a relaxing environment it seems like the perfect place for a rehab center. What are your thoughts on this latest battle in Newport Beach? Should an area be limited to a certain number of treatment centers?

Addiction Treatment and the Family
Alcohol addiction treatment is always an important topic because it can be a painful process for a family to endure. Recently, a story of a tragic car accident hit the news. Two cars were involved a head-on car accident and involved a Navy officer. One car was traveling about about 90 mph, as it crashed with the other vehicle. Both drivers died on impact. What does this have to do with addiction treatment exactly?

Alcoholism Treatment for a Troubled Son
Upon investigation, the LAPD have found that one of the drivers could have made a deliberate move. The driver of the Saturn, Jason Sorg had trouble prior to the deadly accident. His mother told authorities that Sorg’s brother had recently died. The troubled mom also spoke about how her son has had trouble with drinking in the past and was also possibly involved in drug use. This is just an example of how an intervention and alcoholism treatment could potentially help families avoid a tragic situation.

Alcohol Alternative Rehabilitation
The young Navy officer who was involved, Oscar Avila Mendoza, left behind a pregnant wife. His passenger also suffered injuries and is in stable condition. Whether it’s a family alcohol intervention or alternative rehabilitation, this is a serious issue that should be addressed as soon as possible. Alcoholism is a deadly disease that has potential to harm innocent bystanders, such as the one in this story.

The Reason Most Individuals Enter An Addiction Center

The primary reason most individuals with a drinking or drug problem end up in an addiction center is due to a crisis of some kind in their lives. Sometimes it is a legal crisis and the individual is ordered by the courts to be remanded to treatment instead of jail time, but most often it’s a personal crisis in the home and relationships have been strained to the breaking point. Many people who have come to an addiction treatment center are unaware of how out of control their lives have become and they are at a very low point physically and emotionally when they begin the path of recovery.  In recovery terms this is referred to as their “Bottom”.

Take The Proper Actions To Achieve Addiction Treatment

Professional addiction treatment counselors who work for an addiction treatment center must always reassure clients that they are not alone and that the power of alcohol and/or drug dependence is very subtle but can be overcome with the proper treatment advice. Make sure that you discuss the disease concept with your treatment team and your family, the predictable path of progression substance abuse that can lead to full blown alcoholism and drug addiction can be averted when you know the proper actions to take to maintain long-term sobriety.

A Drug Alcohol Rehab Is The Answer

Among the first signs that your drinking problem is getting worse is an increased isolation from friends and family who do not drink like you. Few people have the patience and tolerance it takes to hang out with someone who drinks and drugs all the time, and so important relationships will inevitably fall apart. The tension between the addict and the people he or she is close with with will increase if they do not share the drinking habit. Times of increasing tension will become more frequent and distance will build up often leading to separation, divorce or violence in the home.  Eventually, the need for treatment at a drug alcohol rehab will become necessary.

Addiction Treatment For The Elderly Can Be Necessary

Drug use is becoming much more common for individuals over the age of 60, and alcohol and addiction treatment for the elderly has greater necessity as a greater percentage of the overall population enters its golden years. Due to the secrecy that often shrouds active alcoholism and drug addiction, doctors often have incomplete information when making a diagnosis and have attributed many of the symptoms of alcohol and substance dependence to mere old age.

Depression and symptoms of Alzheimer’s (including forgetfulness, excessive sleep, disorientation, confusion and frustration) can lead to some individuals taking drugs to self-medicate. The medical community has become more aggressive in order to uncover the real cause of alcohol and drug abuse when the patient doesn’t want to admit it a problem.  Many elderly are from a generation that is more likely to keep their problems to themselves,  believing that they can shoulder the burden or work it out on their own. This feeds into the denial and rationalization that allows alcoholism and drug addiction to progress despite increasing problems.

What Alcoholism Treatment Can Do For Your Loved One

The purpose of alcoholism treatment for the elderly is to prevent future damage and to continue life fully aware and appreciative of life’s gifts. Substance dependence can rob the elderly of productive lives because they are more likely to suffer from slip and falls, car accidents and license suspension, isolation from family and financial problems. Substances are also harder on the elderly as their bodies have an even harder time metabolizing the foreign substances which can complicate existing physical problems and diseases.

An Addiction Center In Orange County Has The Answers

Successfully treating alcoholism and drug addiction for the elderly involves combating the behavior patterns that reinforce substance dependence. Attending an  addiction center that caters to the elderly is a great start to break through the hopelessness and shame that comes from believing you are alone in your problems. New behaviors are developed and reinforced that emphasize social and physical activities. An introduction to 12-step support groups is also extremely effective for ensuring long term sobriety.

Nearly everyone who has a dependence on alcohol and drugs goes through frequent bouts of depression and giving up. The elderly are highly susceptible to such feelings and we hope that if you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired you will give recovery a try instead of the next prescription. Treatment is extremely effective for those willing to be open to it and often works after a professional intervention breaks through an individual’s initial denial. You and your loved ones deserve to enjoy your golden years free from the burden of alcohol and drugs.

How To Find An Addiction Treatment Center

Finding an addiction treatment center is a good start to recovery, however, when looking for a treatment center that will provide the most of what you need and the greatest chance for continued sobriety, there are a few characteristics that a person should look for. These are a few steps to finding the treatment center as well as what to look for in that center.

The Steps To Finding Quality Addiction Treatment

Step 1: Look online or through magazine classifieds for treatment centers in your area. If you are able, it is also helpful to contact a drug and alcohol therapist or consultant, because this person will be able to narrow down your search to only centers that provide the best treatment for what you are struggling with.

Step 2: Make contact with a few addiction treatment centers via email, mail or phone. This way you will have brochures to compare. It is very helpful to talk to someone over the phone because this helps ensure a certain amount of accessibility. If contact by phone is unavailable, email is probably the quickest and most effective way to get a response. Make sure to use the websites available to you; here you will be able to find the credentials of the treatment center as well as any other information you desire.

Step 3: Visit or enroll in your treatment facility. If you have found a treatment center that you like either visit or find out further details such as cost, location, program availability and length of stay. For some people it is very important to find out what types of insurance the facility accepts. This can usually be found out on the phone or via email.

A 12-step Rehab Can Offer Solutions

These three steps seem easy enough, but it is also important to take a number of different factors into account. One quality that may be of high importance is the availability of a 12-step rehab. This is essential because 12-step programs not only provide a way of living that can be continued after treatment, but these programs also provide support systems to people who fear relapse or going back to old unhealthy behaviors. Some programs do not advertise their association with 12-step programs however this information is readily available if you ask for it.

Prescription Medication And Oxycontin Treatment At A Drug Addiction Therapy Program

While prescription medications are considered legal drugs, problems can arise when people take these drugs without a prescription, or become addicted to them. Prescription dependency affects all different types of people no matter their age, race, gender or socioeconomic status. Prescription drug abuse has been popularized through the media and people with celebrity status having this problem. In many cases prescription drug abuse cannot be stopped or prevented if the person with the problem knows a doctor or pharmacist willing to over prescribe their medications. In addition prescription drugs are not illegal to have unless they are in large amounts. A drug addiction therapy program can find it hard to detect prescription dependency because people usually take their medications in private settings. These pills powerful drugs do not usually smell or taste like anything and cannot be sensed by people around the user.

Getting Addiction Treatment For Prescription Medications

Usually the only way to know if someone is dependent on prescription drugs is to see them take them or see the effect of the drug on the person over time. Because there are a variety of prescription drugs that people become addicted to, there are also a variety of different symptoms that come with each drug. Some people may be dependent on uppers such as Ritalin or Adderall, and others on downers/depressants such as Oxycontin and Vicodin, each drug comes with its own set of symptoms. In addition to being hard to detect, prescription dependency is also hard to confront. Many people do not believe they are doing anything wrong because at one point the drugs were available to them without consequence. If they do know something is wrong, they are usually in denial about how much the drugs have been affecting them. Prescription dependency is a condition that can be treated if the person is willing to get help. Because prescription drugs come in a pill form just like aspirin or any other over-the-counter medication, people believe that they are not as harmful or addictive.  Addiction treatment is a slow process, but it can be achieved once the addicted individual comes to recognize their problem.

Drug Alcohol Treatment For Prescription Medication Abuse

Individuals who become dependent on prescription drugs can have a difficult time stopping their use without the help of drug alcohol treatment. More commonly people have a hard time admitting that they even have a problem. Some people come out of denial themselves because the drugs stop taking away their emotional pain, however some people must have their loved ones or their doctor confront them about a problem. In some cases an intervention may be necessary, however some people can be convinced that they need to get help. Prescription drug addicts have a difficult time even after they have gone through a treatment program because their drugs of choice or a variety of them can be found in practically anyone’s medicine cabinet. While relapse is a problem that may come up for some addicts, many treatment programs offer substantive relapse prevention programs, classes and workshops as well as aftercare support options that can help with these problems.

Taking it Slow in Drug Rehabilitation

Drug rehabilitation is a serious matter and a different type of treatment, depending on each individual’s health profile. As many patients face detoxification, their withdrawal process can range from mild to very severe symptoms. Drug rehab aims to make detox as easy and painless as possible. During this healing period, a patient will also get the time to address how their addiction is affecting their daily functions. Nowadays, there are even medications to help during detox. Of course, these prescriptions are not meant for everyone and a medical consultation is needed. On the other hand, psychological rehab is something all addicts need and will strongly benefit from.

Addiction Treatment for Sex and More

Sometimes, addiction treatment is not just aimed at drug or alcohol use. Recently, many sources have cited that Tiger Woods is currently undergoing treatment for sex addiction. Compulsive behaviors, such as this, can be extremely devastating and problematic. The life of an addict should not hinder their personal growth or the relationships with their loved ones. All addicts have the potential to be productive and efficient again, only when they stop abusing their drug of choice. While this requires time and understanding, the hard work is worth the results in the end.

Living Sober and Free

A quality support system will build an environment for living sober. Different methods of treatment are available at rehab centers nationwide and you can find your best match by searching for them online. Don’t forget that an effective plan of action will outline relapse prevention. In our weakest moments, there are times when we want to give up and let our impulses take the best of us. Although this a temporary moment of freedom, the addiction you’ll be stuck with again are not worth the risk.

Charlie Sheen Becomes The Latest Celebrity To Seek Addiction Treatment After Alleged Substance Fueled Rampage

Actor Charlie Sheen, 44, and his wife, Brooke Mueller, 32, are trying to save their marriage following Sheen’s arrest for allegedly threatening to kill Mueller on Christmas Day.  Part of their reconciliation will involve Sheen going to an addiction center for treatment for his issues involving alcohol and drugs.

Their friends have suggested in the past that their marriage has been experiencing difficulties. This is Sheen’s third marriage. He has previously been married to actress Denise Richards and Donna Peele.

However, repairing the damage won’t be as simple as seeing a shrink or going to an outpatient drug rehab. There are reports saying that California Child Services officials may temporarily take twin nine-month-old sons Bob and Max into custody until they can assess the situation.

The incident began when Brooke asked Charlie for a separation and divorce. Sheen, who has a history of substance abuse problems, allegedly reacted by threatening her with a knife.

Following the incident, Charlie was arrested for second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief. This occurred while they were visiting family in Aspen for Christmas.

Sheen has sought addiction treatment in the past after similar flare-ups, but maintaining long-term sobriety has eluded him.  For many celebrities with substance abuse problems, the biggest enemy to getting treatment is the sense of entitlement that surrounds them due to the nature of their career.

Sheen was able to get sprung from an Aspen jail in a only a few hours on bail even though courts were closed on Christmas day, so it’s likely he’ll get special treatment from California authorities as well.

Repeated special treatment by authorities is what empowers celebrities to act out in the first place.  Sheen’s recurring problems with drugs and alcohol are testament to the error of society by placing certain individuals above repute.
